The pro­lif­er­a­tion of bull­doz­ers and extrac­tors in our cities tes­ti­fies to the relent­less process of demo­li­tion and recon­struc­tion in the con­tem­po­rary urban expe­ri­ence. It can be under­stood as a sign of renew­al and improve­ment but, as well, a symp­tom of the dra­mat­ic usurp­ing of neigh­bor­hoods once occu­pied by mid­dle and low­er income pop­u­la­tions by the 1%. The van­tage point of Machi­na­tions is recom­bi­nant — incor­po­rat­ing the dri­ver’s per­spec­tive as well as that of the view­er trail­ing behind.
