Leg­end began in 1991 — when I want­ed to make a work of art that would be a con­tem­po­rary equiv­a­lent of such cycles as Piero del­la Francesca’s Leg­end of the True Cross. My intent was to devise a kind of mirac­u­lous event — a world alter­ing one — with a begin­ning — mid­dle — and end. One which seemed to speak to peo­ple of all time and gave the sense of a moment which would repeat itself in var­i­ous forms again and again — and which would speak to us and cause us to rethink and even per­haps to change our lives because of the experience.
